PigeonUltra Company Limited presented three students with scholarships totaling GHC1000 each in an event held in Accra in May 2022. These were the top students in this year’s essay competition. The scholarship scheme is a yearly programme organized by PigeonUltra as a corporate social responsibility in a bid to give back to society.
The theme of this year’s competition was “How did you overcome a significant academic or emotional hardship?”. Three of the four shortlisted award winners received cash prizes from the PigeonUltra Limited at the conclusion of the competition.
Eschew social vices
The goal of this scholarship was to help these students overcome some of the obstacles they had during their studies by providing a financial reward to help them overcome those obstacles.
Mr. Benjamin Odoi, the Marketing Director of PigeonUltra, used the occasion to urge the young to avoid all types of social vices, which had the potential to drag not just their academics, but the entire country behind.
The competition’s goal, he said, was to help students at Ghana’s tertiary, technical, and senior high schools develop a solid foundation and overcome some of the challenges they could experience as students.
Standards
The Brand Honcho of PigeonUltra, Mr Beverly Hottor, also advised the award winners not to allow their current challenges or successes to get into their heads because of the recognition from winning the competition, but rather continue to work hard in order to maintain their standards.
“You understand that by being focused and hardworking while maintaining a strong sense of morality, you can achieve your goals. Building strong moral principles is essential for navigating any problems you may have, whether as a student or in life.”, he said.
