She Decides: Women and Girls Bodies Not For Others

I recently attended an open house discussion where adolescents girls were engaged on Reproductive Health Education and discussed issues ranging from adolescence, safe sex negotiation, menstrual hygiene management among others. The discussions also helped address the various issues and questions they had on sexual and reproductive health and rights. Take a seat and read today’s article which will discuss themes that will make sure that women and girls have control over their bodies, lives and future.

SRHR advocacy

Sexual reproductive health rights (SRHR) are important to help women and girls stay informed about the reproductive health. Condom use, contraceptives, open discussions  about what affects their bodies, access to community healthcare units, are all emcompassing in this all important advocacy.

Menstrual health

These days, we are grateful for the free pad donation drives which are keeping more girls in schools. For digital health of women to thrive, and for improved family planning in Ghana, we need to have the hard conversations that defend vulnerable groups who do not have access to menstrual hygiene kits. Havng a safe space for young people in their homes, schools and workplaces, allows them to connect with each other and to recognise the challenges they face while finding solutions to them.

Abortion rights

Marie Stopes International shares some good counselling for victims of domestic abuse and even allows for safe abortion of unwanted pregnancies. For young women to thrive, they should be able to plan thier futures and be abreast with information that helps them secure a safe one. You will be shocked about the illetracy of some women and girls on the right resources to assess for the benefit of the sexual reproductive health rights and that is why we all need to be each other’s keeper. When safe abortion services are denied the most marginalised people suffer.

Safe sex

It is important to have these conversations and work towards a world where everyone has access to the information and resources they need to make informed decisions about their sexual health and we are grateful to organisations like Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana for divulging this information in a fun and educative way for young people. What steps are you taking to promote sexual and reproductive health and rights in your community? Share your ideas in the comments below.
