1000 women trained on iCode’s GirlCode Programme

Over 1000 women across the Western Region have been trained by Innovative Community of Developers and Entrepreneurs (iCode) with their GirlCode programmer to enhance their IT and innovative skills as well as to help them build their businesses online.

This initiative forms part of iCode’s missions to empower female entrepreneurs to guide their confidence and support their businesses while developing their ICT skills.

The programme was designed by iCode with support from government who provided the group with 50 computers. The focus was on community members and youth entrepreneurs for early stage startup development.

Founder of iCode, Prince Bonney has this to say about the initiative. “15 per cent of the entrepreneurs we trained got direct funding from government to expand their businesses.

He is also of the view that Takoradi can also experience the modules that we see in Accra and Kumasi as these places have become the center of attraction for business support. He assessed that most of these support goes to both those people who have started their own businesses and those planning to start from scratch.

The majority of about 85 per cent have also got funding through opportunities from iCode and its partners,” he said.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, he said iCode has organized digital skills training, which mostly focused on the youth and women within the Western Region community.

They have also launched an online incubation programme with partners to focus on support startups producing green products and services. ICT for kids is another programme in which the organization is about to enroll children of school going age.

iCODE Ghana is an innovation hub focused on technology and business incubation and training based in Takoradi in the Western Region has trained over One Hundred Micro Businesses to enhance and improve their operations and increase profits.
