Happy new month and kudos to us for making the ninth month successfully. A few months ago, I remember telling my co-workers that my favorite things to buy were shoes. This followed a conversation that we had after I wore one of my pointy black shoes to one of the workplace events. I further explained that as some ladies spent on hair and clothes, for me, my first inclination is to spend on good shoes. We all laughed as I gained the name, “madam mok”. For those of you who grew up in my generation, I bet you know the famous story of madam mok’s red scary shoes haha.

Well, my usual search for nice shoes found me at the mall shoe area. I decided to go on a shopping spree and took the opportunity to do window shopping in some of the world top shoe brands. And my, oh my, the price tag blew my mind. A full shoe cost 7000cedis plus. Here I was thinking I was going to see something around 800 cedis to tick off my budget.

How many people even earn 7325cedis in Ghana talk more of spending it on a single pair of shoes. That was when I knew “not your average Ghanaian” is something we must all think deeply about. Anyway, I thanked my stars for my shoe plug because I do not have to spend more than 200 cedis on good shoes and run off from the shop.

Anuanom, when men say women clothing are always cheap, I wonder because the kind of designer labels women are adding to their cart on a daily basis is not that cheap.
