The sole African and Ghanaian brand which represented at this year’s Runway Dubai Fashion show was Masantewaa Emporium, a beading company from Ghana that specialized in handcrafted beaded bags and accessories.
The two-day event began at the Park Hyatt, one of Dubai’s biggest hotels.
The Annual Fashion Show is a multiracial venue that is regarded as the most inspirational fashion event in the UAE. It offers a fantastic opportunity for emerging designers and fashion businesses from around the world to gain much-deserved attention and praise for their originality.
In response to a question about how Ghanaian companies may increase their visibility on the global market, Adelaide Adu Gyamfi, Personal Assistant of Brand CEO said, “I feel what we have to do is, huge support for such African brands placing Africa on the map.”
And when we say support, we mean anything from patronizing remarks to recommendations to likes and tags on social media to support from NGOs and members of the creative arts community. After all, all of these overseas trips cost money, so we require a lot of help.
She asserts that they are moving in the direction that their Afrocentric brand will make Ghana and Africa well-known around the world.
The majority of the crowd commented after the event, “Those are styles and accessories we haven’t seen before in Dubai”.
