All too soon the month of November is coming to an end. Here in Ghana, it has been a heated month. All hands have been on deck. It is a political season. I’ve got news that just like a female run the political race in the USA, Namibia is also gearing towards that terrain. I wish her luck. In Ghana, it’s rather a female vice presidential candidate but it is something close to that. Okay, to today’s column, let’s attempt to predict what December will look like in Accra-Ghana, shall we?
Elections
December 7. Just a few days more to go. The atmosphere in the country is tense. There is already a hang parliament. Election observers are keen on reporting nothing but the truth. Campaign period seems over. The Elections this year looks like a tight one. Most people want the elections to be over and done with. Others need more time to campaign. What does Ghana stand to gain from whoever becomes president? At this point, the ball is in the court of citizens. Your vote is your power.
Party fanatics
The streets are filled with party colours; red, yellow, green, blue, white, and black. Party fanatics can be seen daily in their party T-shirt. I once saw my favorite kenkey seller around the neighborhood in hers and gave her a pat on the back for being so patriotic. She assured me of going to the polls to vote this year. That got me thinking. If we all went to the polls to vote, I am sure the right leader will be chosen, and we would have exercised our civic responsibility.
Birthday shenanigans
Every December is my birthday month. Yes, you guessed right. I’m a Sagittarius. The life of the party. It me plus me minus nothing. I’m looking forward to a calm celebration with family and friends. I may attend a few concerts and theatres here and there or I may just hang around the house and watch people jubilate as they celebrate the winning party. Most election years are a solemn reflection year for me since many forget my birthday.
Beyond the return
Christmas in Ghana is going to be massive this year. Donald Trump is back and anyone who thinks he is a white supremacist is going to find their routes back to their home country. As always, Ghana has open it’s arms to receive citizens and visitors alike. This is to help promote tourism in the country and to showcase Ghana as a hub for hospitality. Although the hype for this year’s Christmas festivities has been on the low, due to the elections, we are sure to have some ‘homies’ back for a December to remember.
