Tribe: Keeping Friends Who Compliment You

Like I mentioned in my previous post, everyone needs their tribe. These days, Tribe is the new slang for friends or friendships. These are people who you have in your corner and who compliment you in good and bad times. Keep reading to find out why you need an extra of each one of these types of friends in your life.

The Confidant

A confidant is someone you trust deeply and feel comfortable sharing your private thoughts, feelings, or secrets with. They are usually a close friend, family member, partner, or mentor. This is someone you believe will keep your issues in confidence and offer support or advice without judgment.

Unpaid Therapist

An “unpaid therapist” is a casual or humorous term used to describe someone, often a friend, family member, or partner, who frequently listens to others’ problems, gives emotional support, or offers advice, without being a professional therapist or getting paid for it. It can be meant affectionately, for someone who’s always there to help, or critically if someone feels overwhelmed by always being leaned on emotionally without reciprocity.

Prayer Partner

Need time to spend with your maker? Need an accountable praying partner who wakes you up at night to pray? That’s the praying partner for you. They know scriptures and are always close to God either through church meetings or personal encounters with the creator. They are always reminding you why you need to spend more time praying and why you need a personal relationship with God. This type of friend will even pray for you in hindsight. They are the intercessors that you didn’t know you needed in your life.

Life of the Party

This is a social butterfly and someone who drags you out when you are feeling low. This type of friend knows around town and is the person to tell you that you need a child pill when you are taking life too seriously. They will take you out to parties, social clubs, meetings, weddings, you name it. And they will show you to new faces since they are popular and everyone knows they are around when they show up at an event.

The Business Partner

This type of relationship is what everyone needs for life. It is one that blends professional and personal connections, which can be powerful and productive, but it also requires strong communication and boundaries to avoid conflicts and maintain both the friendship and the business. A business partner friend is someone who is both someone you work with collaboratively in owning or operating a business, sharing responsibilities, decisions, and profits/losses. And is also someone with whom you have a personal bond of trust, affection, and mutual support outside of business.
