Women Allying Women Holds Female Allyship Conference in Cape Coast

Across Africa, women remain underrepresented in leadership. Their voices are often diminished, yet wherever women lead, communities thrive and societies advance. Closing this gap is urgent, and that is the mandate of Women Allying Women.

Spearheaded by Olori Atuwatse III, the Queen Consort of Warri, Women Allying Women seeks to bridge the leadership gap by building “longer tables” for all women, and creating systems where women are powerfully positioned in decision-making spaces. It is a movement to amplify voices, expand representation, and ensure that women are fully present in shaping the future.

In Cape Coast, Ghana, Queen Mothers hold office, make decisions, and guide their people with authority. Their leadership affirms that women’s role in governance is essential and offers a model that must be strengthened across the continent.

Hosting this year’s edition of WAW in Cape Coast, remarkable women shared their knowledge, vision, and conviction. In attendance was Maame Efua Houadjeto, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Her Majesty Queen Arian Simone of Dawa Village, Côte d’Ivoire, Charlotte Osei, Sophia Ama Otabil, Hayat Aschkar, Baaba Ankrah, Angela Bamford, and Araba Koomson. Their leadership across governance, business, culture, and media reflects women’s influence and the breadth of their impact.

According to the host, Olori Atuwatse III, “This gathering affirmed my conviction that women’s allyship is power. Solidarity creates stronger communities. Collaboration drives opportunity. Representation secures dignity”. To her, the future of Africa depends on women raising one another, standing together, and leading with courage.
