Haben Girma is a human rights lawyer advancing disability justice who believes disability is an opportunity for innovation, teaching organizations the importance of choosing inclusion.
Haben Girma is an American disability rights advocate and the first deafblind graduate of Harvard Law School. She is a trailblazing attorney, public speaker and author of the book, The Deafblind Woman Who Conquered Harvard Law
She shared one of her profound believes regarding disability explaining that, “During a pandemic disproportionately extinguishing disabled lives, the last thing we need is cities adopting tech that excludes blind people and endangers pedestrians with mobility disabilities.”
“Cities and tech companies need to plan for accessibility early in the design process, include disabled people in solutions and review the many published accessibility guidelines. The next time my guide dog and I encounter a delivery robot, it better jump, spin and run,” she continued.
Her colleague at Harvard School, Chasmin Moses also narrated her encounter with the determined disability advocate as, “Haben is amazing. I had the pleasure of graduating HS with Haben (Skyline c/o 2006!) and remember having classes with her. She worked hard y’all, I mean hard! I am so happy to see her living into her potential and past social standards. So much respect.”
According to her various fans and followers, Habin is brilliant and inspiring with one of them sharing heartfelt regards saying, “This woman is brilliant. I watched her interview on BBC and the way she spoke about women empowerment, gender inequality and social injustices was just mind blowing and very insightful.”
